Federal Tax and State Tax Extensions in Texas

Do you qualify?

Find out here!

At Jambrina CPA, we understand how challenging it has been for many Texas residents and businesses to cope with the storms. As an accounting firm based in an affected county, we are in a unique position to help you take advantage of the special extensions granted by the IRS to those impacted by these natural disasters.

What Does This Extension Mean for You?

The IRS has provided significant tax relief to affected taxpayers under FEMA declaration number 4781-DR, allowing you more time to file your tax returns and make payments. This extension is an opportunity for you to meet your tax obligations without the pressure of standard deadlines.

Key Dates to Keep in Mind

If you live in an affected area (you can check if your county is among those impacted in the following link), you have until November 1, 2024, to file most of your tax returns, including:

  • Individual returns (Form 1040)

  • Corporation returns (Form 1120)

  • Trust returns (Form 1041)

  • Partnership returns (Form 1065)

  • S Corporation returns (Form 1120-S)

  • Exempt organization returns

  • Employment and certain excise tax returns

Extension for Estimated Payments and Other Important Taxes

In addition to filing returns, estimated payment deadlines have also been extended. If you have estimated payments due on June 17 or September 16, 2024, you now have until November 1, 2024, to make those payments. This extension also applies to payroll tax returns normally due on April 30, July 31, and October 31, 2024.

Extension for Hurricane Beryl

Recently, the IRS also announced an additional extension for those affected by Hurricane Beryl. Individuals impacted have until February 3, 2025, to file their returns and make tax payments. This extension covers deadlines that fall between August 26, 2024, and February 3, 2025, including most tax returns and estimated payments scheduled during this period. Regular Deadlines and Important Dates

For taxpayers not covered by the storm extension, the regular deadlines remain:

  • March 15, 2024: for partnership returns (Form 1065) and S corporation returns (Form 1120-S)

  • April 15, 2024: for corporation returns (Form 1120), individual returns (Form 1040 or 1040NR), and federal estimated payments.

Estimated payments for 2024 are also due on:

  • Businesses: April, June, September, December

  • Individuals: April, June, September, January 2025.
